Pitch for Day-Z – When the dead rise… you fall

3 survivors of the zombie apocalypse are searching for supplies (medicine/food) in an abandoned building, they think it is empty but they have just walked into a zombie infestation and have to fight their way out to escape with their lives intact.

The survivors will consist of stereotypes for example, the tough guy, an average nerdy guy and a woman, similar to Zombieland. The costumes need to be important to show the characters personality and their stereotype, along the lines of Prop’s characters

The target audience for the film will be young males (15-30) and fans of horror/zombie films. The reason why males will like this is because the setting of the film may appeal to them as well as the nature of the film and potential violence.

The film will be similar to the video game ‘Left 4 Dead’ as it is a group of survivors looking for supplies while fighting zombies. In terms of movies it will be similar to Zombieland and Shaun of the dead as they show a group of people trying to survive zombies roaming the streets. The tone of the film is a lot more serious than Zombieland or Shaun of The Dead so it isn’t a comedy but may have humour involved through a comic relief character for example Robert Sheehan's character in 'Misfits'

Above is the link to making fake blood which i'm using in my film for costumes. I may use the fake blood to do my opening credits to give the film a gory feeling

Potential Problems

I have listed some potential problems for my main task, such as the location. a warehouse would be ideal for the film but i may have some difficulties finding a building suitable. For the opening credits i would like to have blood as the text, so i need to find a recipe for some fake blood that will look realistic in the film. Another problem will be actors, i need to find people who are available in the shooting schedule and who will be in their free periods if we shoot in school time.

Camera shots

The opening 2 minutes show a car driving through a rural area. Every time the car leaves the shot it suddenly cuts to the next shot of the car. The car eventually turns into a cemetery and the camera pans to show the car turning into it. The next shot is a closer shot of the car going into the cemetery. This shot includes a sign, which says “ Cemetery Entrance” which shows that they are going in a cemetery. When they enter the cemetery there is a shot, which includes an American flag, which shows that it is set in America, and the cemetery could be for soldiers.

Sound

The music in this sequence is eerie and suspenseful which gives an unnatural feeling to the scene. It slowly builds up to when they enter the cemetery, which gives the feeling that something is going to happen

Lighting

As the film is in black and white, lighting isn’t prominent in the scene

We all made a website to show off our production company. I used a website (www.wix.com) to design my website using one of their templates. I customised the template by removing things that i didn't want to be on my website and i added links to this blog and my preliminary task. I also took screenshots of the video to make stills to put in the gallery part of the website.
