conventions of genre - punk rock

conventions of genre - punk rock
- storyline of an event e.g. in 'First Date' the band drive around in their van going to various parties and gatherings in order to have fun
- comedic element is that its set in the 70s and the band are wearing stereotypical 70s fashion sense such as shorts and having 70s hairstyles and facial hair
- all intertwined with shots of the band performing the song

'Dammit'
Storyline is going to the cinema and seeing one of the bands ex girlfriend
comedy element is making fun and messing around with the ex girlfriend and the new boyfriend

Film Distribution

Film Distribution Ideas

20th Century Fox may distribute my film as they distributed 28 Days Later, which is similar to my film (ordinary people surviving just after the zombie infection). 20th Century Fox also distributed the sequel 28 Weeks Later. They are one of the most successful and popular film producers and have distributed many classic films such as Star Wars, Die Hard and Titanic.

Universal Pictures distributed Shaun Of The Dead, which is another zombie film, which has a similar premise to the setting of my film such as its set just after the zombie infection. As the film is similar they may distribute it as they have experience in the area but my film is more serious then comical

Colombia pictures distributed Zombieland. Zombieland isn’t really similar to my film, as it’s set a while after the start of the zombie infection. The characters in Zombieland influenced the characters in my film as it shows a tough character and a weaker character, which was what I wanted my characters to be. Colombia Pictures may distribute it because they distributed the remake of Night Of The Living Dead in 1990 and also distributed the more recent Resident Evil films.

final draft of storyboard

this is my fourth and final draft of my storyboard. I changed the plot quite significantly as i couldn't find a building to use as an abandoned building. As the previous plot revolved around the building i decided to change it altogether. Instead i used the premise of the film being set the day after the zombie apocalypse so it would tie in with the title and it would be easier to film (as in the building wouldn't need to look abandoned)

costumes and props needed for shooting

Costumes

Survivor 1 – regular clothes: T-shirt, jeans and a hoodie. Preferably old clothes so they can get dirty
Survivor 2 – army green jacket (to show military history), boots and jeans. Aside from the jacket, use old clothes so they can get dirty
Zombie – regular clothes (jeans, trainers, t-shirt etc.) but must have a hoodie to partially conceal their face.

Props
Survivor 1 – 1 BB gun
Survivor 2 – 1 BB gun, torch
Fake blood
Make up for close up of zombie

iPad uses

I could use my iPad to research films, keep track of what we are doing while filming by putting the storyboard and shooting script onto it. I can also use it to take pictures to use as evidence for the evaluation.

Foley

Foley production is when sound effects are produced for post production for a film or TV show. It was made by Jack Donovan Foley in 1927

The potential problems of using Foley are that the format you save it in may not be compatible with the editing software, the quality may not be good enough to use. It would be easy as we have been given iPads to work with so we can record on the move.

opening music

Opening Music

Zombieland opening music

Sound effects – zombies growling, zombie biting into people, gunshot, glass smashing

Music – ‘whom the bells tolls’ plays in the background of the opening credits. Heavy rock song suggests anarchy

Shaun of the dead opening music

Music - ‘the blue wrath’ plays in the background. As it’s a comedy film the music is lighthearted and has a fast tempo

Sound effects – footsteps

Night of the living dead opening music

The music is eerie and suspenseful which gives a sense of unnaturalness, plays in the background

Sound effects – car driving past

The sound codes and conventions for this genre is ambient eerie background music, which gives the film tension. The sound effects used in this genre are mainly zombie noises, footsteps and occasionally gunshots depending on the type of film.
